Anthropic files to go public, and Jasper AI quietly added 41%

November 5, 2026 · 4 min read

Three weeks since the last issue. One vendor filed the most consequential S-1 in software, and another raised prices 41% without telling anyone. Only one of those made the news.

Anthropic filed to go public, and the S-1 is a pricing document

On 26 October, Anthropic publicly filed its S-1. It plans to list on Nasdaq as ANT, with Goldman Sachs leading. Reporting puts the timing as early as the week of 16 November, with valuation estimates spanning $1.5–2 trillion. No price has been set.

The headline numbers are extraordinary in both directions: $16.29 billion of first-half revenue, against a first-half net loss reported at roughly $80 billion. We have not read the filing ourselves and have not seen the composition of that loss broken out, so treat it as reported rather than understood.

But the figure worth your attention isn't either of those. It's the one CNBC led with: revenue retention of around 900%.

Net revenue retention measures what existing customers spend this year versus last. Healthy enterprise SaaS runs 110–130%. Best-in-class lands near 140%. Nine hundred per cent means the average customer who spent $10,000 last year spent $90,000 this year — without anyone signing a new contract.

That is what usage-based pricing looks like when the usage compounds. No seats were added. No upsell was negotiated. Agentic workloads simply consume more tokens each month than they did the month before, and the meter does the rest.

For buyers, that number is the warning label. If you are budgeting AI spend as a line item that grows with headcount, you are modelling the wrong variable. The filing states no single customer exceeded 10% of revenue in the nine months to September — so this isn't one whale distorting an average. It's the shape of the curve.

We have argued for a year that outcome-based pricing hadn't arrived. This is the first hard evidence of what did arrive instead: consumption pricing on a base that expands by itself.

Jasper AI raised Pro 41%, and we didn't notice for five months

Jasper AI — the AI content platform for marketing teams, not any of the other companies called Jasper — now lists Pro at $69/month billed monthly, $59/month billed annually. We had $49 and $39.

That is a 41% increase on monthly billing and a 51% increase on annual billing, and we cannot tell you when it happened, because the record hadn't been checked since 26 May. We found it last week.

Two things make this more than an isolated miss. First, the Business tier has moved from a listed price to custom pricing with a twelve-month commitment — it is no longer purchasable without a sales call. Second, Jasper AI spent 2026 repositioning around GEO, AI-search optimisation and agent workflows.

That combination — raise the entry price, remove the mid-tier from the price list, re-badge around AI — is now a recognisable sequence. We logged the same shape at Bitrix24 in September and at Semrush before that. The entry tier gets more expensive, the middle gets a phone number, and the product narrative explains why.

We are publishing our own miss because the alternative is pretending our coverage is better than it is. If you evaluated Jasper on our numbers between June and October, they were wrong, and we are sorry.

Perplexity stopped publishing a monthly price

Perplexity Pro now shows $17/month, "or equivalent, when billed annually" — and that is the only figure on the page. There is no monthly-billed rate anywhere on it. It appears inside the signup flow.

A new Max tier sits above it at $167/month billed annually, with 10,000 monthly credits and access to frontier models.

Showing only the annual-equivalent is a standard anchoring move. Showing only the annual-equivalent, with no monthly number published at all, is further than most consumer software goes. You cannot compare it to a competitor's monthly rate without first entering a checkout flow.

Both tiers also carried limited-time credit grants — $40 on Pro, $450 on Max. Credits, not discounts: the list price is unchanged.
