Microsoft Teams · Communication

Business communication and meetings, bundled with Microsoft 365 (Business Basic $6/user includes it). Positioned as the enterprise alternative to Slack + Zoom + Google Meet for organizations already on Microsoft. Distinctive for being effectively free for existing M365 customers — which drove Teams to overtake Slack in enterprise seat count by 2023. Standalone plan ($4/user/mo) rarely used; most Teams growth is Microsoft 365 bundle-driven. AI features (Copilot for Teams) charged separately at $30/user/mo.

In other words, Microsoft Teams is worth it as the meeting + chat + video default for orgs (any size) already inside Microsoft 365 — particularly if enterprise SSO, compliance, and calendar integration matter more than best-in-class UX. Teams Essentials covers standalone use; Business Standard bundles Office and email; Business Premium adds Intune and advanced security. Easy for anyone with Microsoft account. Native integration across Microsoft ecosystem plus 700+ third-party apps. Downside: notification model is confusing (multi-workspace chaos), and July 2026 price increase raised Essentials 12.5%.

UNUSUAL-DELTA + DUPLICATE-TIER FLAG 2026-08-22 — NO PRICES CHANGED, MANUAL REVIEW REQUIRED. Teams Essentials re-confirmed at $4.50/user/mo (matches stored, no movement). PROBLEM: the stored 'Business Standard | 12.5 | 12.5' row is the PRE-July-2026 annual rate. Microsoft's July 1, 2026 commercial price increase moved M365 Business Standard from $12.50 to $14.00/user/mo annual ($16.80 monthly) — confirmed by redriver.com, gravoc.com, nexusitc.net and trustedtechteam.com. Correcting 12.5 -> 16.80 monthly is a +34.4% delta, above the 30% threshold for this record's age, so nothing was auto-applied. SECOND ISSUE: 'Business Standard' and 'Business Premium' are Microsoft 365 plans, not Teams plans, and are already tracked correctly on the separate Microsoft 365 record (Business Standard 16.80/14, Business Premium 26.40/22). This record therefore duplicates two tiers of another record with stale values — a false-data risk on the frontend. ACTION: decide whether the Microsoft Teams record should track ONLY standalone Teams SKUs (Teams Essentials, Teams Enterprise) and drop the bundled M365 tiers, or be renamed. Verification Status left as Verified per the never-overwrite-Verified rule. --- 2026-08-10 verify: Microsoft announced M365/Teams price increases effective July 1, 2026. Teams Essentials moved $4.00 → $4.50/user/mo. Real vendor increase per swktech.com, chanty.com and other sources. Also affects Microsoft 365 Business Basic ($6 → $7 annual, $8.40 monthly). Standalone Teams Essentials remains cheaper than Business tier bundles.
