Help Scout

Help Scout · Customer Support

Customer support platform positioned as the alternative to Zendesk for teams that want email-first support (not ticket-first). Distinctive for its shared inbox UX — customer conversations look like Gmail threads, not tickets. Priced $22-$65/user/mo. Bootstrapped by Nick Francis (still founder-led after 15 years). Popular with SMBs and mid-market SaaS whose support volume is manageable in an inbox format.

In other words, Help Scout is worth it for small support teams (3-30 agents) that want customer-facing simplicity — emails don't look like tickets — with strong knowledge base and light AI. Standard covers small teams; Plus adds custom fields and reporting; Pro adds concurrent chats and advanced features. Very easy setup. Native integrations with Slack, Salesforce, HubSpot, Shopify, and 100+ tools. Downside: automations are simpler than Zendesk or Freshdesk, and mobile app has recurring polish complaints.

MOVED AUTO-VERIFIED -> PENDING REVIEW 2026-09-12: UNRESOLVED SOURCE CONFLICT on the billing-basis of every paid tier. NOT auto-applied. Reading A (vendr, unthread, chatarmin): Standard $30 monthly / $25 annual, Plus $54/$45, Pro $90/$75. Reading B (eesel, getmacha, gorgias): Standard $25 monthly / $21 annual, Plus $45/$38, Pro $75/$63 — matches stored values exactly. The two readings are offset by exactly one billing column: Reading A's annual figures ARE Reading B's monthly figures. Both cite the same ~16% annual discount, so the discount math is self-consistent either way and cannot break the tie. This is the same billing-basis mislabelling class that produced the Moz Local and Make errors. NO vendor announcement of a price increase was found in the secondary search. Adopting Reading A would write a 20% across-the-board increase with no vendor evidence — a textbook false 'Price increased' badge. Stored values kept, no snapshot written. Context worth keeping: Help Scout moved from per-seat to per-customer-interaction pricing in 2025, hit heavy churn, and reverted. Two models now coexist — public per-user pricing for new signups, legacy contact-based plans for some existing customers. That dual model is the likely root of the aggregator confusion. TODO: manual read of helpscout.com/pricing to settle which column is which. AI Answers chatbot bills separately at $0.75/resolution; Docs is +$10/user/mo on Standard only. --- Prior: Free 0/0 (5 users, 100 contacts/mo), Standard 25/21, Plus 45/38, Pro 75/63 (10-user minimum).
